The size of Lisbon has grown considerably thanks to the development of its public transportation systems and Carris is the company who contributed most to this progress. Inaugurated in 2012, the Carris Museum is positioned as a cultural center, as well as the purest living memory of public transportation in Lisbon – an authentic bridge between the present, the past and the future.

The living memory of public transportation is presented in two areas that are visited aboard a 20th century electrical tram. Spectacular, right?!

The first area describes the evolution of Carris through an exhibition of documents, technical plans and drawings, tickets, small objects and uniforms, among other details. In the second area you’ll find the old workshop full of vehicles that represent the evolution of transportation, such as electric trams and buses. There are also several artifacts that complement the historical information about Carris, as well as other types of machinery.

After this unforgettable journey in time, all you’ll want to do is visit each and every one of Lisbon’s alleys and corners in one of Carris’ traditional electric trams. Do you agree?
