Jamie's Italian

Italian food... with a twist!

We waited a long time for a Jamie Oliver restaurant in Portugal and 2018 was the year it happened. In the heart of Príncipe Real, the Italian dishes are the stars, but the rustic-industrial atmosphere is right behind them. We went in with high expectations and were immediately delighted with the space (because the décor screams "Jamie Oliver" everywhere), and excited with the possibility of sampling the renowned English Chef’s recipes.

The service is exactly what we expected it to be – impeccable – and the dishes... the dishes are out of this world! This is a family restaurant (not because there are several generations running it, but because it’s perfect for kids and adults, and not elitist at all), with dishes that are divided into appetizers, pizzas, pastas, salads, hamburgers and many others. Overall, the quality of the ingredients and their winning combinations is guaranteed. With the menu in our hand, the hard part was choosing!

We ended up staying true to the concept and opted for different flavors. To split before the main course, we ordered the garlic bread, which completely redefined our idea of "garlic bread" – crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the inside, with soft garlic butter in the middle and topped with sliced garlic, parmesan cheese and fresh rosemary – and the "crunchy Italian nachos" – very different from the Mexican ones. Both were delicious. The bar was raised.

The main dishes after a lot of indecision: Tagliatelle Bolognese (made with veal ragu – cooked slowly in red wine – and covered with breadcrumbs and parmesan) – a classic dish, elevated to a completely different level that makes our mouth water just thinking about it – and Jamie's Italian Burger – carefully placed meat on brioche bread (made in the restaurant) and elevated to a new dimension thanks to the remaining ingredients: pancetta, balsamic onions, island cheese, tomato and, of course, the special house sauce; served with French fries.

In true "Italian" quantity, each forkful was savored calmly – Jamie's Italian is not for quick lunches! – and with (some) room for dessert: brownie with chocolate sauce, served with salted caramel ice cream and caramelized popcorn; along with a slice of lemon cheesecake with Italian meringue, lemon curd & blackcurrant compote.

If just thinking about these amazing options are making you crave them, give this place a go!

Cool Tip:: Jamie's Italian has three floors and a bar where you can have a drink while you wait for your table to be ready. For groups, there’s a private room on the lower level – perfect for more intimate dinners with friends.
