Espelho d’Água

the Tejo River mirror

Built in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition, this building was rehabilitated in 2014. It is currently a multifaceted space that reflects the multiculturalism attributed to the Portuguese discoveries. All this is no wonder, because it was from here that the Portuguese ships sailed during the discovery era.

At this spot you’ll find a minimalist cafeteria, whose main highlight is its interior vertical garden. There is also a restaurant with a beautiful mural by the American artist, Sol Lewitt.

In addition, there is a place for shows and art exhibitions, a shop, four rooms and one atelier to receive artists, where they can create and display their work.

Cool Tip: Espelho d’Água (which means water mirror) can be experienced at any time of the day, but be sure to check it out during the morning and at the end of the day. Imagine how cool it will be to have breakfast or relax in the evening overlooking the Tejo River.
