Soão - Taberna Asiática
It seems unfair to start this article without mentioning that Soão is more than just a restaurant. In a space inspired by classic Asian Taverns, you can have truly unique experiences that bring the best of Oriental flavors and textures to Lisbon.
The very traditional decoration is composed by unique and original objects, and even pieces that highlight national artists and artisans. The wood tones that are present everywhere highlight the more colorful side of Chef Luís Cardoso's creations, resulting in a wonderful contrast that is an invitation to test your senses and embrace the delicious flavors that come to the table.
Between dishes and drinks, the gastronomic culture of ancient Asian peoples is promoted, in an experience that goes beyond the food. Here you can try mainly Japanese dishes, but also Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, South Korean, Indonesian, and even Laotian. If your goal is to enjoy a genuine experience, this is the right place.
On our visit we started by trying the Tung Tong (or Thai Money Bags), the Dim Sum with champagne, lobster and prawns and a sushi combo - we highlight the authenticity and freshness of the flavors. The plane that would take us to the Orient had taken off, and the stopover was made with the wonderful Red Curry Fish that we enjoyed with an Angkor Wat cocktail. At the end, to land in beauty, we tasted a traditional Thai dessert that made our mouths water: Glutinous Rice with coconut milk and mango! And as it is the authentic character that distinguishes this Asian tavern, we cannot fail to highlight the filter coffee - a proposal that amazed us and that escapes from the conventional.
In every detail of Soão there is a memory of a mythical place, a new discovery of an Asian trait that captivates us. In Soão, no two experiences are the same, and that's a good thing - there will always be new reasons to return.
Cool Tip: Soão is not only about traditional food. Venture out to the bar and try delicious cocktails that remain faithful to Asian customs. From sake to Japanese whiskey, as well as lesser-known proposals, there are tailor-made suggestions, designed to harmonize with the dishes and provide happy moments.
