Restaurante Sangiovese
At no.14, of Rua Dr. António Cândido, we find a family restaurant that combines the Italian traditions with the flavors of Portugal. In an increasingly cosmopolitan Lisbon, a Mediterranean journey is always welcome - and that is the suggestion of Restaurante Sangiovese. The simple decoration, almost traditional, and the relaxed atmosphere, invites us in and makes us feel welcome. The friendly and helpful staff at Restaurante Sangiovese shows that those who do what they like, always do it well.
The concept of the menu is seductive: in addition to the (typically Italian) pastas, pizzas and risottos, Chef Tiago, who is responsible for the kitchen, challenges us to taste improbable yet delicious combinations. A good example of this is the delicious Sardine Bruschetta - which proved that Italy and Portugal can also be best friends at the table, after all. From bread to ice cream, all products are made by Sangiovese and respect nature. As such, the ingredients depend on the time of year, and Chef Tiago insists on selecting the best products in an effort that is very noticeable by the explosion of flavor of his suggestions.
On our visit we left the meal up to the chef, who decided to highlight the Tuna Tartar (delicious and served with toasts made by him), the Codfish Gazpacho (a suggestion that you really can't miss on your visit), the incredible Partridge Escabeche, Farinheira à Brás, and Foie Gras. At the end, be sure to try the homemade ice cream that we guarantee is as delicious as it is photogenic!
Sangiovese stands out for its wine selection. Regardless of the dish you choose, you will be able to accompany it with the perfect wine, just ask the sommelier for a suggestion (and there are plenty of options, from the four corners of the world!). For each of the dishes we tasted, was suggested an equally unmissable wine - like the sparkling Famille Hugel that accompanied the Foie Gras.
The relaxed and familiar atmosphere, as well as the sharing concept of Restaurante Sangiovese make this place a perfect choice for those looking for a memorable experience with friends or family. Either way, it's a visit you don't want to miss.
Cool Tip: Restaurante Sangiovese has a take-away service, so you can try Chef Tiago's delicious suggestions in the comfort of your own home.
