A Pastelaria Batalha ensina-lhe a fazer Pastéis de Nata!

Pastelaria Batalha is one of the most awarded bakeries in Lisbon. In 2018, Pastelaria Batalha won 3rd place in the Best Pastel de Nata in Lisbon Contest. Since the summer of 2018, João Batalha, owner of Pastelaria Batalha in downtown Lisbon, organizes workshops where he welcomes locals and tourists who want to learn the secrets behind the recipe of the iconic Pastel de Nata.

Pastelaria Batalha’s Pastéis de Nata Workshop is mainly aimed at travelers and food lovers (Portuguese or foreign), who want to learn how to make the most popular pastry in town. The workshop is open to all levels, including participants without any kitchen experience – there are no excuses!

In this workshop, participants are invited into Pastelaria Batalha’s manufacturing area, where they can experience the real atmosphere of a bakery, wear their uniform, and work with all the ingredients and equipment used by the kitchen professionals. During the lesson, participants learn how to do everything from scratch: from the puff pastry to the filling, to baking the pastries in an industrial oven. The results are fresh, authentic pastéis de nata, just like those that can be tasted in the city’s best bakeries.

During this workshop, guests not only learn the Pastel de Nata recipe, which they can later recreate at home, but also a little bit more about the history of this very typical sweet, the life of a professional pastry chef, details related to the bakery and life in Lisbon – this is intended to be a culinary experience, but also a cultural one, which means everyone is invited to ask questions and bring their own topics to discuss while they cook.

Pastelaria Batalha’s Pastéis de Nata Workshop can be scheduled HERE, with a cost of 50€ per person. Lessons are normally held in English, but there’s also the option of doing the workshop in French, Spanish or Portuguese for private groups and by appointment.
