8 Gardens in Lisbon for a Family Picnic

In Lisbon there are parks for all tastes and a picnic, regardless of the time of the year, but always in good company, this is always a good suggestion when the weather allows it. Whether with family or friends there are many options to choose from. Today we share eight gardens in Lisbon that could be the perfect stage for one of those memorable moments.

Eduardo VII Park

It is one of the most extensive parks in the city, and has an excellent panoramic view over Avenida da Liberdade, and also over the Tagus River. The park has many other benefits, such as an esplanade, bandstand, picnic area, tennis court, gymnasium or swimming pool, and is also the stage for cultural events.

Campo Grande Garden

It is the largest green space in the center of Lisbon, with a large navigable lake. Besides the possibility of having a family picnic, you can take your dog to the canine area, and enjoy the lake with the small rowing boats, the central element of the garden that was recently remodeled.

Estrela Garden

This garden is located in the heart of Lisbon and is the best excuse for an outing, regardless of the day of the week or the reason. Yes, it is worth visiting and enjoying this space with family or friends. This garden has a nice playground where kids can play freely, and also six grassy clearings asking for picnics and afternoons reading a book.

Cool Tip: You can request a book from the library-kiosk.

Gulbenkian Gardens

Located on Avenida de Berna, near Praça Espanha, close to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Gulbenkian gardens are probably the most iconic gardens in Lisbon. This green space has the perfect environment to relax in this part of the city, but it also allows you to walk several paths, discover the huge water mirrors, and observe the fauna and flora that compose it. The place has tables and benches where you can have a picnic, but you can simply have a drink in the foundation's cafeteria.

Tapada das Necessidades Park

It is very little known, but it is one of the many relaxing gardens that Lisbon has to offer. In Tapada das Necessidades there are several rare trees that came from different countries, and we can also find one of the largest collections of cactus in the world. Here, you can have a picnic, because the gardens are quite large, but you can also enjoy the lakes and waterfalls.

Monsanto Forest Park

This space offers great potential for family leisure. If you want to have a picnic or simply wander through the woods, there are four suitable options: Parque de Merendas da Alameda Keil do Amaral, viewpoint of Montes Claros, viewpoint of Moinho do Penedo, and Mata de Benfica.

José Gomes Ferreira Garden

It has trees everywhere, including olive and carob trees, and two areas with tables, one of them with a stone grill. It is one of the best parks in Lisbon to have a family picnic, because the whole garden is also inviting for a good moment of rest.

Cool Tip: On weekends go first thing in the morning to book your place, as it may be difficult to get all the meat into the grill.
